Menzel's Maelstrom turns a deep charcoal ground into a nocturnal swirl of molten amber, turquoise, acid green and icy blue: painted figures, bright eyes and liquid ribbons drift across the front, continue over the sleeves and gather into denser, orb-like forms near the lower hem.
